It always seemed to me that 24/12 V convereters were way too expensive, since they should be pretty similar component-wise to the common low-cost 12V to 120V inverters that have come out recently. I assume it was because there isn't much market for 24/12 converters and the expensive products were fairly old designs.
I would be very curious to hear how these new cheap ones hold up under real-world conditions, because overload protection is the main complexity and a lot of the cost in any kind of power electronics. In particular, I wonder if these cheap units are resistant to short circuits, noisy loads, and load-dump transients, things that will kill a minimal-cost design.
