I'm not real sure that everything is wired up correctly, as I aquired the truck not terribly long ago, and someone else did the conversion. I'm kind of going off what little knowledge I have, and the recommendations of some others that have wired other vehicles in a similar manner. I have hooked my VOM meter to it, is that the same thing as an ampmeter?? It read roughly 13 to 14 volts w/ out the engine running. Which seems odd to me, shouldn't the battery be isolated from the alternator when the key switch is in the off position, so that it doesn't discharge if something were to go wrong with the alternator??? The way I understand it the light should come on with the ignition switch until the engine is started, and reaches a certain RPM, to where the alternator excites the coil enough to close the points on the regulator( old system with contact points) Without the contact points, I think the diode that you plug into the alternator excites and closes the contacts inside causing the light to go out. Does that sound right?? Like I said I'm just kind of going off what little knowledge I have, and some other's recommendations.
