I just had to do the same thing.... I had a cracked exhaust mainfold on my 1/2 ton dodge 230
ci engine.. I got a used take-of exhaust manifold
from my good buddy John Horniakwho removed it from one of his parts trucks. I had to use the
intake manifold which was on my truck originally
cause' it was a little different than the one John gave me. I DID NOT have the mating surfaces machined before bolting up. I used some high temp form-a-gasket between the intake and exhaust manifold, and bolted it up to the engine using original stly engine to mainfold gaskets. I left the bolt which secure the two manifold together loose until I tourqed the mainfolds to the engine. Then I tightend them up... This is the second setup I did using used, non-machined first
parts and have had no problems with leakage. Maybe
I got lucky, but I beleive that if you use a good
high-temp gasket maker betweem the two mainfold, you should have no problems...
