This is a classic reason why I won't buy a vehicle without a title, or one that has a title that hasn't been signed over by the former owner.
If you have the title signed by the previous owner and havn't had time to get it transferred over to your name, at least you could prove that the vehicle was legally sold to you and that Joe Blow authorized same by adding his signature to the title.
I still think someone is yanking your rope though. If noone has come forward by now, I would think they have moved on to a new mark.
BTW- How far away was this truck from your home when you bought it? If its several states away, or even a couple hundred hundred miles, I wouldn't give it a second thought. The fact that noone has come by in a year tells you the situation has been forgotten by someone down the line. Maybe the crooks were busted already and are in the can. Maybe thats why you haven't heard from them. Maybe they tried to con a conman somewhere down the line, and got iced and subsequently dropped into a quarry someplace.
Bottom line, get it titled and move on.
