If that had really been the Sheriff, you would have recieved an official document. Someone is messing with you, keep your registration and title up to date, take the truck back apart and finish your work. When you have a valid bill of sale, you must/should immediately re-register the vehicle in your name. You have done nothing wrong and you have NO ACTUAL knowledge that you recieved stolen goods, just some heresay flake phone call. The legal system does not work from verbal instructions or phone calls. If you did not receive anything in writing and you have registered your vehicle, and the registration VIN matches the frame VIN, you are fine.
