Hi All,
I am doing a power steering conversion on my 57 Power Wagon. I have the steering box mounted and have put the pitman arm on. It will only go onto the splined shaft enough to give me one nuts worth of thread, without the lockwasher. the nut is fairly thin so adding in the lock washer would reduce the amount of thread in the nut to less than 1/2 the depth of the nut. I thought it might be cross splined, so I removed it and checked. There was no galling or deformation, so I reinstalled it with the same results. I have tried the impact gun, driving it on with a drift and hammer and the impact again. In the instruction booklet that Ray provides, he makes mention of "if the pitman arm goes in to the frame that the hole in the frame will need to be opened up. I did open up the hole as a precaution. I have checked behind it and it is not bottoming out on anything.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Tim
