1948 MU-2 winch.
The gear housing gets loaded with 90wt oil (or whatever viscosity depending upon your conditions). VPW also recommends cornhead grease for the gears.
My question relates to the various zerk fittings and required greasing on the drum and at the brass bushings. Braden recommends a minimum of a NLGI Grease rating of 2 or better Moly type grease.
Does anyone recommend a specific type product? Where can you buy it?
The drum is essentially hollow with zerks on both ends. How much grease in the drum is enough? Potentially it could be fully loaded with a couple of pints filling the entire hollow, but it wouldnt really do anything since there is no metal to metal contact in the hollow.
