WE (Raleigh, North Carolina) use a really big optical scan ballot where you use a black felt tip to complete the arrow next to the candidate (or option for the amemdment and bond issue questions) that you wish to select.
The only thing that really tricks some folks up seems to be that voting straight party does not include the presidential or judicial races (I split my ticket, but they always make a big deal on the ballot itself, in the media, in in the printed material at the polls about this...).
The volunteers are a nice mix of elderly folks (lots of veterans and thier spouses) as well as younger folks. The girl who checked me in and gave me my ballot might have been 23 whereas the guy watching/assisting folks put thier ballots in the scanner looked like a WWII vet...
The only sheep near me are the ones at the NCSU research farm just up the road getting educated...
