Question on tailgates

I know a simple Dodge question will seem pretty lame next to the soap opera we have playing today, But can someone tell me what year the tailgates that are used on the 3rd series beds were introduced? I believe 2nd and 3rd interchange, if so, when did 2nd series beds begin. Thanks and now we return to our regularly scheduled program!
