Think back to the context of the times. Nearly all vehicles sounded like that in the 20's and 30's. Most buyers were former G.I.'s that had ridden in a multitude of noisey military vehicles and tanks, while being shot at. Since the average Joe had not been able to afford a car since 1929, these trucks were more like Cadillacs than trucks and yes, every manufacturer of the time had trucks that sounded like that. That was probably what in later years finally killed off the Power Wagon, ferd, gm and even Dodge with it's Sweptline, began to 'civilize' their trucks and make them more car-like.
