I feel with all the money, labor hours, taking the bride out to dinner, dinner, dinner, why not spend a few extra bauck and get rid of the rust, not use some miricle coating or convertor. I dont trust them for the long term. I usually blast my own parts.
Due to my time. I had a local farm equipment dealer blast the M-37 Frame with Black Beauty. He charged me $120.00. I could hardly buy the black beauty for that price. But, I absolutely know there is no rust anywhere to haunt me in the future, nor was there any on my other trucks. All of them started with a bright shiney frame. Its my opinion, that these miricle coatings/convertors are at best a Band Aid. I like the PPG Epoxy and Hardened MOA Chassis Black. They have been designed to work together for untold years of service.
I did a test last year with Rust Oleum Rust Reformer on a small test spot on a rusted piece of steel. I followed the directions exactly. The resulting conversion/coating looked great. After the proper cure time, I took a screwdriver and scraped the converted/coated area. There was still rust below the converted/coated area. It only did the surface, not deep. I have not tried or tested and of the Zero Rust or POR Products, cant comment on thier results.
