I took a bunch of the Scouts from my Troop on a hike today to the top of a mountain where during WW2 a fighter plane was about 40 feet too low to clear the top. There is no trail there so we practiced our map and compass skills and bushwacked in about 3 miles. Came right to it. Big chunks of mangled aluminum, the engine, and assorted parts and pieces. Almost anything that could have been stripped off has been. We brought up some tools so the boys could get some souveneirs. I removed a rocker cover on one of the valve rockers. There was still oil in there and I removed the rocker and the bearings were still free. Close to 60 years since that part has seen daylight. The kids were pretty sobered by the wreckage. It was a truelly memorable hike. Dodge content, there were some awesome trails down low on the mountain that were just screaming Power Wagon. I may go back and give them a try.
