It would seem that the 'geared' part of the lock right is a distance primarily controlled by the thrust washers. Did the 4 small pins break? If so it would seem reasonable to conclude that there is more force on the pins than the 'gears', that would mean that more washers are needed to take the load off of the pins and transfer the load to the 'gears'???
