M37 timing lights and markings

Can I use a 12 volt timing light with a seperate battery (12 volt to power the light) and time my 24 volt system on my M37?
Where is the timing mark located on the pully? I found the "grid" area on the pully, but do not know where the exact mark is for timing.
Thanks guys............she is getting close to completion. Just wanted to get the engine up and running while the fenders were off and the "stuff" is easy to get to!!
