Normal incompetence I should think, getting the chassis number right is the critical bit, and an approximation on the age is good, plus some trucks just weren't made when they said they were - I have a 1942 WC36, which shouldn't exist according to the listings, just because it was delivered early the following year, and it was one of the first ones 'USA' numbered in the delivery system, so it was probably made and rejected, or sat at the back of the delivery call-offs till it was needed.
