The 1/2 ton brakes are (unfortunately) made so you have to take the bearings apart when you pull the drums. The 3/4 ton brake hub comes off seperate, so you don't disturb the bearings. For a 4-wheeler, this means with a 1/2 tonner you've got lots of fun every time you want to wash mud out of the drums and inspect the brakes. I have an old 1941 WC pickup and I'm going to swap 3/4 WC or M37 axles under it just to get around this (someday - Project 652 - you know how it is). BTW, the axles don't directly interchange - you'll need to grind and weld perches, etc.)
I take it you've got a 3/4 ton body and a 1/2 ton frame? If so, time to chase down a local military vehicle club and start doing some horse trading. Better to do it right than to hash it up.
