Hey Andy - Whether you go for "flat-fenders" or "Townies" (or any other 30+ year old vehicle) - parts, maintentance, etc. are both easy & difficult. Many parts for both can be found at your local NAPA dealer. Junkyards have old Dodge trucks. Many NOS & reproduction parts dealers are listed on the "Related Links" page of the "Power Wagon Page" (access from the top of this forum). If what you need is not available locally - a few calls should yield what you want & UPS can usually get it to you.
A factory parts book is a must to learn interchangability of parts.
Basic advice, but worth mentioning...Buy as much truck as you can afford & then some, while trying to avoid overpaying. Unless you have lots of time & a desire to do it all yourself - you will wind up spending the money anyway. Think of it like this - you will be on the road & enjoying your fine Dodge 4 x 4 that much sooner !!!
If you like - join the "Townie" email list with about 85 members to swap stories & pics with. Also, we know about 6 or 8 Townies for sale (both 2 & 4 wheel drive). So shop around, learn year model diffeences, etc. before making any decisions.
The Johnny Burrito website has a "Burrito Wagon" page with loads of Townie & other Dodge truck info.
Hope that helps.
Cheers, JB
