The poly head looks to be 6 7/8" +/-
LA head 7" +/-
If either is wider, it is the LA, not the poly.
The thing that IS wider is the intake manifold, which causes the engine to LOOK wider when viewed from the top.
This is because the intake surface of the LA head is parallel to the line of the cyl - or 90 deg perpendicular to the head surface of the block.
The Poly head intake surface is canted, or leans toward the center of the cylinder at less than a 90 deg angle, which spreads the distance between the 2 heads where the manifold bolts down.
Basic geometry dude. Compare the END of the 2 heads.
