One trick that a retired Idaho State Police officer taught me, was that on a big truck, licence it for the light weight. Say 17,000 vs the 48,000 lb loaded. Our DOT scale sits south of town, and as long as I stay around the farm and do not go south ove the scale loaded, I am fine. As far as 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, I am not sure what the weight break is. But there is a combined weight if you are pulling a traier with cargo. But anything under 18,000 does not even have to pull over to a DOT scale. Tom
