since the truck is an older model I doubt that the tags are still on the diff houseing. I dont know if 8 3/4 had tags since its a drop out center section. All my Dodge have the factory gear ratio on the door plate. Once again due to age this may not be correct so the easist I have heard of is to jack up one tire. Tape a string to top center of drive shaft, put tranny in neutral(read block tires or have good e brake) and spin the lifted tire 1 complete revolution. Then count the wraps of string on the drive shaft.
3 wraps and a little= 3.23 to 1
3 and a half wraps = 3.55's ( dont know if that was an option in that year
4 wraps and a little 4.10 to 1
I would doubt that it would have lower gears than that on a half ton but with a dodge who can say. I just mentioned the dana 60 rear end because I figure if I break a stock part I dont want to break it again. who cares if it gave 20+ years of service :)

I copied the above from the archives if you want to try it.
