radiator hose length and alternator questions

Hi folks!
I have 2 questions for anyone. What is the proper length for the 'rubber' return radiator hose that goes from the lower part of the radiator to the U-shaped metal pipe- for 230 ci flathead.

I have an alternator for my truck but no instuctions for wiring. It has two wires( red and white) can anyone tell me how to mate this to my wiring harness/battery.
