PW potential

there is a 1948 (i think) power wagon for sale here in South Bend,IN for $2800. I'm looking for a 4x4 toy and i'm wondering the future potential for the truck. from what i read the top speed on this year of truck is around 50-55. are engine and tranny swaps possible to allow for higher speeds for highway driving? it's about 3 hours to the Badlands Offroad park, and i really doubt I could trailer it with my Tahoe could I?
