10 btdc initial is usually OK for everything, it was the target for distributor recurveing when I worked at a dyno shop. Then see how it goes, retard if pinging or hard start, advance if not. But we disregarded the book settings, did it all by actual experience of what worked, with each vehicle/ load/ gears/ cam/ compression, etc.
