I was a democrat in 1972 when I came back from overseas after an 18 month tour of duty and during my first steps on American soil, I was spat upon and shouted at by a group that was co-founded by John Kerry, called Vietnam Veterans Against the War. Did those people know me or respect the uniform that I was wearing? Were the majority of them democrats? Did they know that I worked in the Robert Kennedy campaign? You say "We tend to develop respect for other people based upon their character and honesty" do I see that same mentality of fairness when people that should know better make up lies and distort the record of a war time President who is defending this nation from potentially the biggest threat in it's existence? I don't see much open mindedness in the two years of relentless slogans and half truths that are being spread against an honorable man who is putting his nation ahead of his chances to get re-elected, because he is trying to do the right thing and defend his nation.
Nowhere in my original post did I take a position on anything except to comment that a lie is being perpetrated about the country being divided. The map plainly shows that outside of the cities, yuppie resort areas and Indian Reservations this nation is pretty united. The map speaks for itself, the responses were either directed at me in personal attacks, or in an attempt to deflect attention from the map, falsely attacked the source of the map, or with pleas to change the topic. Ironically nearly everyone who asked to change the topic, then went on for paragraphs about something other than trucks. The map stands on it's own, it is a reflection of the people and no amount of bloviating will change it.
