I've been told my local machine shops no longer "boil out" engine blocks. They put them in a spray tank to remove the external dirt, but that doesn't do anything to get rust scale out of the water passages.
I have disassembled a couple flatheads I want to overhaul. How can I clean the water passages beyond removing all the freeze plugs and scraping with a screwdriver? Does anyone know of shops that offer a block cleaning service? Are there chemical solutions I can put in there? If I devise a skinny, hooked nozzle for a sandlblaster, will that clean it or just fill it with sand?
Anybody know where I can find valve guides for a '39 Chrysler eight cylinder?
I have found all the other engine parts at Terrill Machine in Deleon, TX. They have great prices on six-cylinder parts, too. 254-893-2610
