OT help needed Auto electrics

Dad picked up a chrome alternator at a garage sale. Guy said it works fine he was replacing it because chrome was peeling. It's a one wire alternator and Dad wants to put it on his backhoe. There were no instructions with it and my knowledge in this area is lacking. Do I just run one wire to the battery hot (+) or does it go thru something else first. Pardon my dumb question and thanks for any help, Kevin
