Oil breather, leaking

I have a FFPW with a 230 motor that seams to be leaking oil out of the breather that is on the oil filler tube. This breather is about 3.5 inches round and 2 inches tall, with a mesh like screen covering about a quarter of side. I have another 230 with another breather that has a couple of holes in the bottom of it and I have a third 230 with no breather on the tube, just a plastic cover. Which is correct? Why would it leak?
