The ones that use a solenoid have points inside to wear/burn, and a bellows that is prone to crack. The rotary vane type wear vanes, and have brushes to wear. My typical mechanical pumps last 10 years. I do wonder of a pressure cap would help with pump life- they have been standard equipment from detroit for 30 years, hold about 2 psi, but vent air in to avoid vacuum / vapor lock.....
