gin pole view finder

Bought a C3 thats been sitting for a long time that has what I'd describe as a periscope over the driver's side cab roof. I assume it was to look at the mast of a gin pole-A/frame. Anyone else seen anything like that. The farmer threw in a WDX parts truck for free, a guy has to get lucky at least once
