the capillary tube on what I found in my local store was smaller, and since it ia difficult to drill a hole smaller (in the back of the instrument) I went with the splice. Soldering to the gauge could be a problem, since the Bourdon tube is soldered too. I went with the sure/simple method. Splice will be under the dash where it won't show, and 'un-restored' gauge will match the rest of the cluster. But if somebody ever unwinds it and sees the crimp on connector and thinks they can cut it and resplice.....
