Manual Trans rebuild question

I'm rebuilding a 5spd trans that had fourth gear syncro chewed up.The teeth were stripped off the syncro and the faceted (diamond shaped)teeth on the (blocker)? ring and the input shaft are slightly nicked up. My question is how perfect do the faceted teeth have to be? I put it back together but it binds when I try to shift it in fourth - this is still on the bench. Should I try to polish the teeth? Any input would be appreciated
