You're better of not using a knife switch, for several reasons:

1 exposed contacts

2 sparking

3 needs to be humongous

See post below from "Paulie Syrup" about marine-duty rotary switches, which have (you guessed it) no exposed contacts, no sparking, and are not humongous.
