M-37 fuel supply question...fuel pump?

My M-37 has been running fine, today at idle it just quit. I could restart for a second or two using the choke, then nothing. So I suspected the fuel supply, and I found I was getting nothing out of the fuel pump.

Is is common for pumps to fail like that? By the way, there did not seem to be fuel in the crank case so it does look like a sudden failure.

I wondered also about the line back to the tank getting blocked, maybe in the tank filter.

What's your guess?
