If the muskets you are talking about are the crossed 1903 Springfield rifles, then that is the insignia for the United States Army Infantry. Crossed sabers are Calvary, usually accompanied by a tank between the sabers, signifying Armored Calvary, which is fairly redundant these days since all calvary is mechanized or airmobile except for two ceremonial units of Calvary that still use horses for parades. The US Army 3rd Infantry in Washington D.C. is one such unit, you may have watched the State funeral of President Reagan, the horse drawn cassion was from that unit, at Ft. Myers VA.
