I was once told by an automotive engineer, that the whole pos./neg. ground thing came about when Autolite/Ford and GM/Delco were battling over government contracts for military vehicles. I guess GM/Delco won .
But apparently both sides put out a lot of propaganda regarding the opposing system.
The electrons flow from neg. to pos. no matter where you attach the battery. At least that's what our physics teacher told us in school. RDT
