Well, first you need to be out of here and on the Sno-Cat Forum (link below)

If you want something for modern commercial use you need a modern rubber-tracked machine that will set you back around 20k US. If it is for your own use you can get one of the most common 400 series for about US 3000 upwards, but not many rise to the dizzy heights of 10K US, I think I paid $3500 for mine.

If you get an old steel tracked machine it may well have standard Chrysler / Dodge flathead six (normally the industrial engine) plus Chrysler gearbox and axles, but with a special aluminium full time 4 x 4 transfer case. Construction is light, more like a light aircraft than a truck. Only problems most people have are welding the aluminium steering frames if they crack and endless servicing of the track rollers is you give them a lot of use. On the good side the tracks are steel , so you can pretty much weld repair them till the cows come home - unlike the rubber tracks on a Weasel, for example.

Those Kittens at the construction site would fetch at least $4k each and would be a good start - either to use or to trade. take some pics and post them on the Sno-Cat Forum - see you there.
