I had the same "Goldilocks" problem (one too tight, one too loose, none just right) with an alternator bracket from VPW. They admitted that it was not a correct bracket, but it was the only one available.
I used the belt that was too tight, by removing the tightening bolt from the alternator, slipping the belt over the pulley, and then re-inserting the bolt. It was tighter than a turtle's bellybutton, but I finally got it to work.
You can also lengthen the slot a bit.
