OT: 4X4 ambulance help

Our rural vol. FD needs a 4X4 ambulance. Because of the terrain and access (or lack of it) we're looking for something on a van chassis and hopefully short-wheelbase. Everything I've located so far that is 4X4 seems huge. I'd like to locate something the size of a standard van, like an Econoline. Any leads or suggestions would be appreciated. We're shopping for something '92 or newer, pref. dsl, in the $10K to $20K price range...got the grant burning a hole in my pocket.
