Western Electric referred to the touch tone mechanism as a dial. The action that it performed was referred to as dialing. The equipment that received the tones was called a dialed digit register.
There are rotary dials (which you may consider a retronym) and tone dials.
The phones I seek have type-25 touch tone dials.
