Coil balast resister

Just bought a Mallory Unilite distributor for my 315 Poly. The instructions say that a balast resister must be located between the ignition and the positive (+) terminal of the coil. A ceramic thing sits on top the coil that interupts the wire from the ignition to the (+) terminal. Am I right in assuming this ceramic thing is a balast resister?
