Before you go rigging that jerry can to the carb to fire it up, you need to prime the lubrication system or you will burn and maybe even spin a bearing. You need to fill it with BREAK IN OIL, which is 10w motor oil. This is available from rebuild shops, parts store and race shops, SUMMIT RACING comes to mind. Next you need to pull the distributor. Take a look at the end that engages into the oil pump and note the length of the shaft to the distributor, Now go and buy a cheap screw driver that is longer than the shaft and has a blade as wide as the end that engages into the pump. If needed grind the blade to the proper dimensions. Now cut off the screwdriver handle and attach a drill to the shaft. Stick this into the distributor hole until you engage the pump. Place a mechanical oil gauge in one of the oil galley holes. Now run the drill in a CLOCKWISE direction until you get a pressure reading on the gauge. If you do not get a reading after a minute you will need to self prime the pump by removing the cover and packing some clean grease, NOT MUCH JUST ENOUGH TO COAT THE ROTOR, into it and then repeating the procedure. Now you are ready to connect the jerry can. Also drain the break-in oil after 2 hours of run time and replace with 30w. Also replace the filter and dry out the filter can.
