It won't cut a nail now without dulling. I know it was good steel well-tempered when it was new and I have Proto cape chisel that I've used on some hard stuff without much wear at all. If it was Chinese I'd just assume it was made from recycled re-bar and that was the end of it. Maybe I'll ask one of the old miners how they tempered the drill steels. Might be similar.
