I run a Tip pressure unit works great after I got the right compressor. You need a 2 stage 5 hp unit as a minmum. Also the best moisture filters you can afford. And as noted you need ear protection and a air supply for breathing, I use a Hobi pressure air supply with a mask. When you have the right equipment set up the job goes fast. I run around 100 -120 psi with 80 grit abrasive (NOT SAND) and it works great on heavy items like wheeks, frames and suspension parts. It is NOT for body panels ! I also run 1/2 inch air feed lines. The bigger compressor works great with the HVLP guns and glass bead cabinets so consider the investment in a larger compressor for more than just pressure sand blasting. Don't waste your time or money if you aren't going up to that level of compressor as smaller units have to run too much (get hot) and cause serious moisture problems in the blaster. I would be very careful when renting one of the larger commercial units as they are quite powerful and capable of serious parts damage if used incorrectly. Personally I thinks it's worth the cost getting the rig set up as you always end up with some additional items you want to blast but don't because you have to drive down to the commercial guy to have them done.
