The Mile Marker 8000# single speed Hydraulic
Winch has a 8:1 input ratio. They are using a 9.7 cu in hydraulic motor, the PS pumps are rated about 3.5 to 4 gpm. I happened to have a Char-Lynn 101-1028, 9.7 cu motor in my shop. Due to the input ratio of our MU-2
being 20:1, I knew it would be a little slower than normal. The Char-Lynn 101-1028 is rated at 9.7 cu in, at 4 gpm and 1200 psi it runs 90 rpms.
I am watching Ebay for a Char-Lynn 101-1026 which is a 4.5 cu in motor. It is rated 4.5 cu in, 4 gpm at 1200 psi will give 191 rpms.
I had a nice chat with a engineer at Braden that felt going with the 4.5 cu in motor would give line speeds very close to a MU-2 in normal operation.
Presently the winch works great but is a little slower than the standard shaft drive, but Mile Marker did their home work on use of the PS Pump. I can operate my winch at 60 mph (ha ha ha ) since all you do is divert the hydraulic oil from the PS to the winch. No shifting a PTO in and out of gear.
Do a Ebay search on Hydraulic Motors, there are always a bunch of Char-Lynn's. Mile Marker says they won the winch contract for the Army Hummers and all electric winches will be changed out to PS/Hydraulic. Check out www.milemarker.com look at the single speed hydraulic winch 8K#.
