On the drivers side of the rear differential carrier there is a slotted screw with a nut that has welds to it and the housing - DON'MESS WITH IT! On the inside of carrier there is a thrust pad that the ring gear rides against under torque. That screw adjusts the clearance between the pad and ring gear. If you have ground off the weld, re-weld it.
The filler plug is on the opposite side, same height and has a square head. If you don't see it you may need to scrap off dirt/grease.
