The manual is not much help without the Test Set. I didn't have one available, anyway. Also, I wanted to avoid military harnesses so I went to a 24v, one wire alternator.
My local auto electric shop converted a Delco for me at less than the price of a new, standard car alternator.
Building the alternator mount took a few hours. You can save the M-37 generator pulley if you put it in a lathe and cut off the "snount" making it fit like any other pulley.
One wire from alternator to ammeter and then to batery terminal on foot starter switch.
