John,
I am only attempting to answer your "stupid" question. My '53 horn bracket was held by two head bolts that were tapped on top for a smaller bolt! My new stainless steel head bolts don't offer that feature, and I didn't want to remove any let alone try to tap them. Here's what I did. I bought a shelf bracket for a few bucks, and mounted it to the firewall such that it holds the horn bracket just above the head where it used to fit. The existing holes in the shelf bracket fit the horn bracket, even angling it slightly to miss the air cleaner, and one of the existing firewall bolts. All I had to do was drill two new holes in the shelf bracket. It isn't correct original, but pretty subtle and unnoticeable to any casual observer.
