That valve holds a slight pressure in the line to the wheel cyls, the brakes don`t drag because of the big return springs that discs don`t have. I have never seen drum brakes without one. Get a look @ a GM parts book for that MC & one for drum brakes. you will most likely discover the only difference is the addition of that valve. I think the reason they suggest that MC is cause it is used with disc brakes. If you used the valve on a disc brake setup the brakes would drag. IMHO use a master that was designed for drum brakes for safety as it was designed by the Manufacturer. Regards, George
