Read a thread about this on the Turbo Diesel Register with a link to a dodge page. The Sending unit on ( at least 3rd Generation) Cummins, sends a signal to the gauge in steps showing low, and some various indications between low and high. The computer makes the gauge read what people expect to see. Yes, thats what dodge said, makes it read what people expect to see in the middle ranges.....go figure. Dont know is this holds trus to 1st & 2nd generation trucks.
