computer troubles - viruses and worms

I am amazed at the folks who are always complaining about such things. I spend a good deal of time on the web searching. I get boo-coo emails. I don't get all these viruses and such things and I don't use a anti-virus program. Where are you folk surfing to pickup such things? I run a simple win.98 OS
emachine w/ a 500 cel.chip.,128K ram.
Maybe a more wholesome use of your computers would eliminate the chances of picking up such things !
This is just my reaction to not only those comments here, but those of people I encounter on a daily basis at work and in general whenever computer talk comes up.
But still, I'm amazed why so many seem to having problems w/viruses. Where on earth do people go that allows them to pickup such things ?
